deerington 2 electric boogaloo
IN CHARACTER
Character Name: Max Guevara
Canon: Dark Angel
Canon Point: Post-2x17 (Hello, Goodbye)
In-Game Tattoo Placement: Low on the back of her neck, underneath her barcode. (Like so.)
Current Health/Status: Alive, albeit with a neural implant and a chest implant that gives her superpowers and all the psychological trauma that comes from that and being experimented on.
Age: 21
Species: Transgenic (genetically engineered/enhanced human).
Content Warnings:
Max's canon history contains many potentially triggering details, including mentions of child abuse (sexual and physical), physical and psychological torture, alcoholism, mentions of forced breeding programs, police brutality, guns, and character death. Her Meadowlark AU history contains mention of forced experimentation, kidnapping, and violence, including a fatal car wreck.
History: Wiki on the series; wiki on Max.
CRAU History and Impact: Max's time in New Amsterdam was fairly short but she experienced some significant events, the most notable being the neural implant and the blue matter that's been fused with her sternum that (during her time in game) had recently activated her psychometry ability (the ability to discover facts about an event or person by touching them or inanimate objects associated with them; think Theo's ability from The Haunting of Hill House). Her ability was activated while trying to help out the citizens of New Amsterdam after a massive power outage left the city in chaos and ruin; she had been attempting to hotwire a car that had been involved in a wreck to move it and when her hands touched the steering wheel, a violent car wreck played out in her mind from the point of view of the victim.
I imagine that in Deerington the neural implant would be rendered ineffective unless there is another in game who arrived there from New Amsterdam, but the psychometry would still be active (and since it was only recently activated, it could be fun and by that I mean really awful for her). Regarding how this has impacted her, there has not been a whole lot of change to her personality but her physicality is a bit different: she frequently wore gloves in the show in order to protect Logan from transference of the virus when around him, they are now a consistent part of her wardrobe. She will also be confused about ending up in another place, possibly thinking of it as an extension of the world she's just come from at first, but this will get dismissed once she realizes she's the only one there with glowing blue matter fused into her chest.
Regarding people who she may have known in New Amsterdam being in the game, she will possibly recognize their faces but will quickly come to realize they have not experienced what she has (the fact that they do not have the glowing chest implants and that she can't feel them or access the neural network that was available in New Amsterdam will be a pretty big clue). Significant relationships she had while there included Leopold Fitz and Poe Dameron, the first of which she worked closely with when it came to getting the displaced settled once they were rescued by Morningstar and the latter of which she bonded with over past torture, not being able to sleep, and arriving in New Amsterdam around the same time. Her canonmate, Alec McDowell, had also arrived in New Amsterdam prior to her arrival, but neither were in game long enough to expand their relationship much more than had already been established in canon. (Incidentally, Alec is the only one she had seen in New Amsterdam that she would mention having seen there as well.)
Personality:
Max was born and spent half her life being trained as as soldier, which is something that comes up in her life more often than she'd like to think about it. After escaping, it took her some time to figure out how the world outside worked and how to think and act as an individual - her whole life up until that point had been dictated by Manticore, which had taught her the importance of relying on your unit. Certain events in her life have shaped her personality - her experience at Manticore, fear of getting recaptured, and her experience with a foster family with an abusive father figure made her distrustful of authority figures, men in particular. It's also made her believe that it was easier and safer for herself and others to be alone, causing her to develop a hard, caustic personality meant to push people away before they got too close and realized or got hurt because of who and what she was. But being separated from the unit she'd come to know and love as her family ingrained a strong desire for human connection, which led to her feeling incredibly guilty for leaving her foster sister in such a harmful situation and to her determination to find the rest of the X5s that had managed to escape.
She often analyzes people when she first meets them, sizing them up as a potential threat, because she never knows who could be working for Manticore or would want to turn her in if they discovered what she was. She judges people quickly and is often unwilling to change her mind once she's made it up, especially if they've done something to harm her or to one of her friends or family (this is shown in her earlier interactions with Alec, after he's betrayed her). She prefers not to get too close to people, romantically or friendly, not only because she's afraid of being hurt or hurting them, but because she doesn't want to be turned over to the police or government, or worse, to get the people she cares about hurt or killed. This has, unfortunately, happened quite often throughout season one, but she's actually grown to be more open to people over time, though up until the end of season two, she still only really trusts a small circle of people.
It's difficult for her to break off an emotional connection once one forms - she continued to work with Logan after breaking things off with him, saying that she always has his back, and believed that Brin was still the sister she knew despite much evidence to the contrary (Brin was the one who turned Tinga over to Renfro) and Lydecker's insistence that she would kill her without a second thought. She inspires fierce loyalty in those she's close with and despite being somewhat abrasive and arrogant and is fiercely loyal and protective herself, especially towards the other transgenics and her found family and friends.
She often acts on instinct and doesn't consider every possibility of what could go wrong in a situation. A prime example of this is her letting every transgenic out of Manticore - her intentions were good, especially considering the alternative was them being burned alive - but the idea of the less-human looking ones being hunted down and killed and none of them knowing how to behave in the outside world had never occurred to her. She does not handle emotional pain very well, preferring to hide it, lash out at, or stay away from whoever's causing it rather than working through it or talking about it. She's very stubborn and unwilling to admit when she's wrong, especially when she believes she's doing or has done the right thing for herself or the people her actions concern (this is primarily shown with Joshua, who she wants to protect from harm but consistently hurts with her insistence that he stay hidden from the outside world).
Abilities/Powers/Weaknesses & Warping: Regarding her baseline capabilities, which are part of her genetic makeup, I can't think of anything she can do at this point that would break the game, but if you feel otherwise I have the following ideas: her healing factor can be diminished, or if she uses her senses (enhanced sight and hearing) beyond their base setting it could cause a negative effect, like migraines or vertigo. I am also open to her being susceptible to toxins. Regarding her psychometry, this was already limited in game canon to her only being able to recall events relating to an individual; if you have any other ideas I am open to suggestion.

Are you comfortable with prominent elements of fourth-walling?:
What themes of horror/psychological thrillers do you enjoy the most?: Space horror is my favorite.
Is there anything in particular you absolutely need specific content warnings for?: Visuals of snakes, earthworms, maggots (especially in food/skin), centi/millipedes, and some forms of body horror (for example, the scene in the first Deadpool where he saws off his hand and it grows back, or trypophobia).
Additional Information: I am intentionally omitting several pieces of canon information that are not currently relevant to Max's canonpoint; if you would like me to expand upon them I am willing to do so. I chose to leave them out now because, as mentioned, they're not relevant at the time I am taking her from.
