[ she's been wondering if she could reach out, or if the woman who'd been looking out for her was even part of the group she now finds herself in. she hasn't seen her since she'd gotten shot and woken up in new tokyo, and since then she's kind of just been trying to adapt, wondering if she'd see any of the people she'd ended up connecting with in spite of everything. ]
hey. thanks for that, i wasn't sure what happened to you or how to reach out myself.
i'm okay. [ more or less. she's still kind of reeling from everything. ] how are you?
yeah, i know the feeling. wait - planet? are you on the moon?
[ she says she woke up, not that she died, and max isn't sure she wants to ask if that's what she remembers before waking up, if that would be better or worse if she did. ]
oh. okay, yeah. that doesn't exactly give you the best impression.
[ there's some radio silence on her end as max debates whether or not to reveal this, but she ultimately decides she should. the woman had looked out for - well, if not her, a version of her. she's already revealed that she's not human, and she's part of this group. it doesn't feel right to hide it. ]
i'm not human, either, technically. i'm a transgenic. genetically engineered.
i'm not the only one who is, if that's what you mean.
there were groups of us, in a facility. i don't know if there are other facilities out there who are trying to engineer their own supersoldiers, but it wouldn't surprise me.
Before arriving here I had only met one human. Adult, male. He is a lot weaker than Sebaceans, a lot slower in reflex and response time. I only know about Earth, about humans, from him and he is full of references that I don't understand.
If humans don't engage in genetics engineering broadly it would explain a lot.
they don't. we were part of something covert. [ it can't really be called covert anymore, even before she'd burned it down and made a stand with her kind in the middle of seattle, but it had started out that way. ]
some look like me. others were purposefully engineered with more animal in their cocktail once the people who made us realized that that had certain benefits. i think some ended up looking that way by accident, but that was probably earlier on.
[ And she does. She understands that autonomy is very important to humans, and it would make sense that it's also important to humans who have been born and bred modified. She knows that Peacekeepers have been raising their children as such for generations. Humans have not. ]
You don't have to tell me more. I was merely curious.
[ her instinct is to keep things to herself, because up until recently that's been how she's survived. but they're different now, even at home. maybe it would benefit her more to share things, but it's still difficult for her to open up about certain things about her life. ]
it's not really a secret anymore. it's just been that way for a long time.
[ It's late, in the safehouse, but Aeryn isn't sleeping. She's just come in and scans the rooms for the person she's looking for, finding Max in the kitchen. ]
[ max isn't sleeping, either, but that's not all that unusual. she catches a few hours here and there and it's usually enough and she isn't sure how much she trusts this place - she trusts the people in the same position she is, but not necessarily that she won't wake up to another weird situation or worse, in the labs, being worked on by the people responsible for her being here in the first place.
she's in the kitchen trying to find something to drink when aeryn approaches, turning to face her with a look of mild surprise. ]
That sound kinda ominous. [ and it does, but she trusts aeryn's intentions. ] What's the offer?
Sorry, [ she says with a shrug, continuing in the same breath: ] I've found a place to live, but the cost is more than I can handle on my own. Would you be interested? There are small rooms and a shared bathroom, but a separate shower and some semblance of privacy.
[ her expression shifts into mild surprise, but it also clearly reflects gratitude. ]
Wow. Yeah, I'd be interested. [ the safehouse isn't bad, necessarily, but the cots have the unfortunate effect of reminding her of manticore and shelters she'd lived in here and there growing up. ] What made you think of me?
[ she knows they'd had shared history back in the aerie, but that's not the same as actual history. ]
I don't know very many people here and while I'm aware we don't really know each other either, I thought that the risk was worth the possible reward. [ Of getting out of this place. ] Besides, you're still here.
@aeryn.sun | let's pretend I know a date for this, but post-aerie wake up | text
I realize that we don't actually know one another. However, I wanted to reach out and see how you were doing.
who knows dates, certainly not me! <3
hey. thanks for that, i wasn't sure what happened to you or how to reach out myself.
i'm okay. [ more or less. she's still kind of reeling from everything. ] how are you?

Overwhelmed. I don't understand anything about this planet.

But I'm not human, I'm Sebacean. I've never been to Earth before now.

Is genetic engineering uncommon amongst humans?

Where I'm from genetics engineering is common. What does a supersoldier look like, in comparison to the average human?

[ talking about herself if one thing, but what if people like joshua show up? ]
