[ that's a loaded question, and max honestly isn't sure how to answer it. she trusts alec, but that doesn't necessarily mean she wants to be tied to him in the way dominant and submissive contracts are bound to each other. it isn't that she thinks he'd take advantage of the situation (he knows better than to try pulling that shit, with her or anyone else), but it's responsibility she isn't sure she wants to give him.
but then she's not excited about the idea of giving that responsibility to anyone, so wouldn't it be better to give it to someone she's more familiar with? ]
