[ the retriever is not a lapdog but she thinks she is a lapdog and she's currently sitting up in lotti's lap, thus blocking her entire view of the television.
in a sing-songy voice: ] I'm gonna bring you and Daniel to the pound 'cause you really suck right now.
[ max knows she's expected, but she knocks once at the door anyway in case lotti's in a room other than the living room so she won't potentially come back in to find max unexpectedly there. she hears goldie getting called a cunt just as her knuckles rap at the door and laughs as she turns the knob and steps through it.
goldie she knows, and she beams at her as she gives lotti a break and a better view of the screen to come nudge at her knees and lick at her fingers, but the other dog is unfamiliar with her and may need a minute to get used to her smelling kind of like a cat but not being one. ]
Hi, sweetie. You coming to me to try getting out of trouble? [ max bends down to give the retriever a few good scratches before straightening and nodding to lotti, offering her hand if she'll accept it. ]
[ it's not that lotti was ever avoiding max, either, it simply never lined up and lotti is a lazy creature by nature so she really needed to expend a decent amount of effort to give enough fucks to text max.
scooter seems intrigued by this new person, nose wriggling excitedly as he stands to stand in lotti's lap — apparently her life is just being a bed for pets — to sniff at max as she joins lotti on the couch. ]
[ similarly, max hadn't been avoiding meeting lotti, it just hadn't worked out until now. she also works twelve different jobs, so finding time to try and reach out or meet up had been difficult. that and she's only been in the mood to be social again fairly recently.
max takes the spare seat on the couch, holding her hand out to scooter when he indicates his interest in her, knowing that he may need a minute. goldie nudges at her knees and she scratches her behind the ears as she lets scooter come to a decision about her, and when he ultimately seems to decide that she's okay she scratches behind his ears as well. ]
Hi, Scooter. [ she keeps simultaneously petting both dogs until scooter settles back down and goldie lands both her legs in max's lap. ] Okay, yes, your turn again. [ she devotes a couple seconds to scratching goldie underneath her chin before finally getting a look at the screen. ] Which show is this one?
[ lotti does not seem fazed by slandering her own favourite show, but she knows what she is about. and what she is about right now is pizza on the couch with the dogs trying their very best to eat the slices right out of her and max's mouths while they watch intensely shit telly.
in all honesty, lotti doesn't have and has never had a lot of female friendships (she really understands daphne's motivations in ocean's 8,) so this is nice. it's nice to just hang out. ]
